SCHUMER: CONGRESS APPROVES TRANSFER OF GRIFFISS AIR FORCE
PROPERTY
Measure is part of Department of Defense Authorization bill
passed by Congress
Language now authorizes transfer of property from former Griffis
Air Force Base to Oneida County Industrial Development Agency to
be used for area economic development
US Senator Charles E. Schumer today announced that Congress has
approved language authorizing the transfer of property at the former
Griffiss Air Force Base to the Oneida County Industrial Development
Agency, the local re-use authority for the former Griffiss Air Force
Base. The news came as Congress approved the Fiscal Year 2005 Department
of Defense Authorization bill which will now await the President’s
final signature.
"This language is yet another step in allowing Oneida County
to use former Griffiss Air Force Base to drive the area's economic
development," said Schumer. "We are on our way to opening
up the former base for business by allowing for Oneida County to
re-use Griffiss' retired buildings.
The language is another step in converting the former Griffiss
Air Force Base. It will allow the Oneida County Industrial Development
Agency to utilize these buildings for the further development of
the Griffiss Business and Technology Park. The buildings to be conveyed
include:
• Building 240 (117,323 square feet);
• Building 247 (13,199 square feet);
• Building 248 (4,000 square feet);
• Building 302 (20,577 square feet).
