SCHUMER SECURES $50,000 FOR “GROWTH & DEVELOPMENT
SERVICES” PROGRAMS FOR
AT-RISK TEENS AND FAMILIES
Funding included in the FY05 Omnibus Appropriations bill
The funding will be used social support services in Hispanic
neighborhoods in Washington Heights, the South Bronx and communities
in Westchester County
US Senator Charles E. Schumer today announced that Congress will
pass the FY2005 Omnibus Appropriations bill which included $50,000
for social support services for at-risk teens and families in Washington
Heights, the South Bronx, and communities in Westchester County
provided by Growth & Development Services. The funding was included
in the Labor, Health and Human Services Appropriations portion of
the bill. The bill now heads to the President for his signature.
“Growth & Development Services provides New York families
in these communities with the tools and support they need to stay
together,” Schumer said. “This funding will help GDS
to reach more of the at-risk teens and families who are in need
of a their guidance. From teaching nonviolence to helping families
cope with hard times, these programs make a real difference in New
York’s Hispanic communities.”
The funding will be used to provide social support services to at-risk
teens and families in Hispanic neighborhood. Growth & Development
Services provides intensive, clinical case management to teens,
and their families, with severe social, behavioral and emotional
problems. GDS also facilitates crisis intervention for families
and administers caretaker support groups for parents or alternate
caretakers. In addition, GDS will offer families nonviolent solutions
to caretaker-teen conflicts.
