PURCHASE TECHNOLOGY AND EQUIPMENT
Funding Part of FY 2005 Omnibus Appropriations Bill
Federal Funding would be used to buy technology and equipment

Center for Convergent Technologies
US Senator Charles E. Schumer today announced that Congress will
pass $125,000 in federal funding for the Long Island Association
to purchase technology and equipment for its Millennium Center for
Convergent Technologies. The funds are allocated through the Labor,
Health and Human Services Appropriations section of the Fiscal Year
2005 Omnibus Appropriations bill. The bill now heads to the President
for his signature.
"Long Island has established itself on the cutting edge of
medical research," Schumer said. "This new Millennium
Center is crucial for Long Island's continued excellence because
it allows 10 important research and academic institutions to continue
working together more efficiently and effectively. It's a great
investment for Long Island and for the whole country."
The funding will be used to purchase technology and equipment at
the LIA's Millennium Center for Convergent Technologies - a center
intending to bring together Long Island research and academic institutions
together with business to develop marketable products of the convergent
technologies. The research and academic institutions collectively
decided to focus on the contours and workings of the brain and its
relationship to various diseases and activities.
The members of the Millennium Center for Convergent Technologies
and the ones who will utilize this technology and equipment are:
the Long Island Association, Brookhaven National Lab, Cold Spring
Harbor Lab, Stony Brook University, North Shore/LI Jewish Health
Systems, Computer Associates, Symbol Technologies, New York Institute
of Technology, Farmingdale State University, OSI Pharmaceuticals,
the Collaborative Group and Cablevision.
