SCHUMER: OVER $85,000 COMING TO PRO ACTION OF STEUBEN COUNTY
FOR VETERAN JOB TRAINING
Schumer: Veteran's Workforce Investment Program grant will
help Pro Action provide job training to area veterans
US Senator Charles E. Schumer today announced that Pro Action of
Steuben County will receive over $85,000 in federal funds to provide
employment and training services to help veterans in the area pursue
employment opportunities. The funds are allocated through the Office
of the Assistant Secretary for Veterans' Employment and Training
(OASVET).
"When men and women risk the ultimate sacrifice to serve our
country and protect our liberties, we make a promise in return –
that we will take care of them and their families," Schumer
said. "That means making sure that they have access to the
job training and resources they need to provide for themselves and
families. This money will help fund those crucial services at Pro
Action of Steuben County."
Pro Action of Steuben County is a nonprofit organization working
to fight poverty at the local level. The organization provides family
development, head start, senior nutrition, child care, and rural
health care services to name a few. They also provide employment
training services and the $85,225 they receive today will go towards
training and helping veterans get jobs.
The Veterans' Workforce Investment Program (VWIP) provides employment
and training services to eligible veterans. The programs can provide
but are not limited to training (formal classroom or on-the-job
training), retraining, job placement assistance, and support services,
including testing, counseling.
