SCHUMER ANNOUNCES CONTINUED FAA FUNDING OF ONEIDA COUNTY AIRPORT
US Senator Charles E. Schumer today announced that the Federal
Aviation Administration (FAA) has decided to continue federal funding
of Oneida County Airport. The money, from the FAA's annual budget,
will be used to keep the air traffic control systems at the airport
operational.
"Upstate New York needs smaller airports like Oneida County
to remain open," said Schumer. "Businesses have shown
a willingness to locate where air service is convenient and reliable.
The continued service of airports like Oneida County is necessary
for new businesses to see the viability of locating in Upstate."
The FAA had been considering the withdrawal of federal funding
to Oneida County Airport. However, because of a new cost/benefit
analysis of the airport, the value of the facility to the region
was shown to exceed the operation costs.
