SCHUMER ANNOUNCES $200,000 COMING TO SUNY RESEARCH FOUNDATION AT BUFFALO STATE COLLEGE

Funding Will Be Used for Conservation Facilities Expansion

U.S. Senator Charles E. Schumer today announced that the SUNY Research Foundation at Buffalo State College will receive $200,000 from the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH). NEH grants are highly competitive and involve a rigorous review and selection process to ensure that the best of humanities research, education, preservation and public programs is cultivated. Buffalo State College will use its grant to expand conservation facilities and endowment for a professorship in conservation.

“This is great news for Buffalo State,” said Schumer. “This funding will help strengthen the arts conservation program at Buffalo State. The graduates from this program go on to become the custodians of our nation’s cultural and artistic heritage at some of the finest institutions here in the United States and around the world.”

Buffalo State College’s Arts Conservation program is one of only three programs in the United States that offers a Master’s degree in arts conservation. It is nationally known and respected. The Research Foundation of State University of New York, the largest university-connected research foundation in the world, enables discovery through strong, behind-the-scenes support of research education and public service. Under formal contract with the university, the Foundation administers more than 5,000 sponsored programs being conducted at the 29 state-operated campuses of State University of New York.

The National Endowment for the Humanities aims to promote excellence in the humanities and conveying the lessons of history to all Americans. The Endowment accomplishes this mission by providing grants for high-quality humanities projects in four funding areas: preserving and providing access to cultural resources, education, research, and public programs.

NEH grants typically go to cultural institutions, such as museums, archives, libraries, colleges, universities, public television, and radio stations, and to individual scholars.

The grants:

• Strengthen teaching and learning in the humanities in schools and colleges across the nation
• Facilitate research and original scholarship
• Provide opportunities for lifelong learning
• Preserve and provide access to cultural and educational resources
• Strengthen the institutional base of the humanities

The Research Foundation of State University of New York will receive the grant for conservation of facilities and endowment for a professorship in conservation.
