County Wants to Locate Medal to Put on Display at Niagara County
Court House - Medal Must First Be Located By Feds
In Letter, Schumer Writes to Navy Secretary and U.S. Archivist
Urging them to Locate the Medal to Honor Huskey
Today, U.S. Senator Charles E. Schumer wrote to the Secretary
of the Navy and the Acting Archivist of the United States urging
them to locate an unclaimed Medal of Honor for Niagara County
native 1st Class Fireman Michael Huskey. Huskey was awarded the
Medal of Honor, the nation’s highest military honor for
valor, in March of 1863 but Huskey and his family members died
before the medal could be claimed. Niagara County is seeking to
locate the unclaimed medal to put it on display at the Niagara
County Court House. Today, Schumer wrote to the Navy Secretary
and the National Archives urging them to locate the unclaimed
medal and give it to Niagara County so that it can display it
in honor of Huskey’s service.
