On June 5th, 2023, amid a new CDC warning on tickborne disease and a rise in cases across the Northeast, including new worry on Long Island, Senator Schumer announced a new $160 million push to beat back tickborne disease as he detailed the summer’s battle plan on Long Island, made possible with millions in federal dollars he negotiated last year. He also announced a new appropriations push to increase the two accounts Long Island depends on for the upcoming year. Senator Schumer said when it comes to advancing a vaccine for Lyme Disease and guiding funds to Long Island for local public health efforts, the critical account and agency is the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID). Senator Schumer will make an appropriation request for $30M for Vector-Borne CDC program and $130M NIAID.
