Every year, Chuck commits to traveling to all62 counties in New York to meet with constituents.
Standing at the City of Kingston Police Station with a coalition of Orange and Ulster County law enforcement officials, U.S. Senator Charles E. Schumer called on the Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) to take immediate action to stop the flow of unmarked, unregistered, and untraceable weapons into the Hudson Valley. Following recent discoveries of ‘ghost guns’ in Orange and Ulster counties, arising from a shocking incident where a police officer sold a pistol resembling a semi-automatic Glock to a central figure of an outlaw motorcycle club trafficking cocaine and selling pills, Schumer explained that despite having the authority to do so, ATF does not currently classify unfinished frames and receivers — the core building blocks for ghost guns — as firearms, a position that allows a prohibited person or gun trafficker to buy all of the parts needed to easily build an unmarked “ghost gun” without a background check, a clear regulatory loophole.
