Every year, Chuck commits to traveling to all62 counties in New York to meet with constituents.
On February 13, 2023, Senator Schumer, standing beside union leaders and Long Island families outside the TRACON air traffic navigation facility in Uniondale, New York, joined the protest against the Federal Aviation Administration’s decision to relocate 30 TRACON air traffic controllers off Long Island and to Philadelphia.
The Senator publicly demanded that the FAA back off and keep their previous promise to him that they would not relocate the controllers. The Senator emphasized that the move would uproot the lives of these families who have made Long Island their home and add unnecessary risk to the facility’s operations. The high-traffic TRACON facility, employing over 300 individuals, has managed air traffic from Kennedy Airport, LaGuardia, and regional airports, including Long Island MacArthur Airport for decades. The Senator stressed that these jobs must stay in New York and pledged to use his role in securing significant federal funds for the FAA, as Senate Majority Leader, to make sure they hear his concerns.
