Every year, Chuck commits to traveling to all62 counties in New York to meet with constituents.
On December 19, 2022, on the heels of delivering historic funding to Capital Region Fire Departments this year, Senator Schumer completed his annual tour of all 62 New York counties in Saratoga Springs. Standing at the downtown Saratoga Springs Fire Station, he revealed that he is pushing for $370 million for each of the two major federal firefighter grant programs-- a $10 million increase over last year. Schumer originally created the Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) Program back in 1999, which later expanded to also included the Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) Program, and the Fire Prevention and Safety (FP&S) program, from all he learned on his 62 county tour and meeting with fire departments across Upstate NY.
