On August 29th, 2012 Senator Schumer visited the home of Veteran Eugene Lang to present him with the Purple Heart Medal for his service in the military. Lang had previously been denied the Purple Heart due to the lack of records that existed about his case. Senator Schumer and his staff worked tirelessly, in partnership with the Journal News to bring attention to Mr. Lang's case and get the evidence necessary to award him his long overdue Purple Heart. Senator Schumer was joined by The Lang Family, along with Mr. Lang's commanding officer, Joe Carpenter, who traveled from North Carolina to be there for this special day.
