\nOn October 4, 2012, Senator Schumer visited the former U.S. Army Reserve Center on Oakley Street in Poughkeepsie. The building has been vacant since 2008 but federally owned, allowing for no new economic development in the area. Schumer called on the Army to expedite the sale of the building by allowing for companies to bid on the property to get it out of the federal government's hands. Schumer asked that tours be conducted of this facility by local interested businesses and the building be sold to bring more jobs and economic development into the region. He was joined by Mike Oates, President of Hudson Valley Economic Development Corporation, City of Poughkeepsie Mayor, John Tkazyik, Country Executive Marc Molinaro and Dutchess County Chamber of Commerce President, Charlie North.
