Schumer And Clinton Announce Millions In Crucial Funding For Central New York Included In Omnibus Bill
Funds Included as Part of the Fiscal Year 2008 Omnibus Appropriations Bill Expected to Pass the House Tonight and the Senate Tomorrow
Schumer and Clinton Fought to Secure Funding to Increase Economic Development, Health Care Services and Transportation across Central NY
WASHINGTON, DC-Senators Chuck Schumer and Hillary Rodham Clinton today welcomed funding for projects in Central New York included in the Fiscal Year 2008 Omnibus Appropriations Bill. The omnibus bill, which includes 11 appropriations bills, will go before the House and Senate for final passage this week before being sent to the President for signature.
"These projects are crucial to fueling economic growth across Central New York and for giving local residents topnotch services in education, law enforcement and health care," said Senator Schumer. "By investing in these vital projects, we ensure that Central New York continues to lure new businesses and tourists to the region, while ensuring families have the firstclass services they need."
"I am proud that these funds will help support critical investments in Central New York, from community revitalization to cleaning up our waterways. I'm pleased that my colleagues in the Congress have joined me in recognizing the importance of these investments in New York's people, economy, and infrastructure," said Senator Clinton.
The Omnibus Appropriations bill includes funding for the following projects for Central New York:
· Regional Climate Centers, cooperative agreement with the National Climatic Data Center: University of NE, Lincoln, NE; Illinois State Water Survey, Champaign, IL; Cornell University, Ithaca, NY; Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge, LA; Desert Research Institute, Reno, NV; UNCChapel Hill, NC) $3,572,000
· Utica College, NY Sex Offender Authentication Research Project $705,000
· Onondaga County, NY communications project $1,410,000
· Onondaga County, Onondaga County, NY, for a CountyCity Interoperable Communications System $446,500
· National Textile Center and Textile/Clothing Technology Corporation $4,700,000
· Wastewater treatment facility improvements for the Village of Oswego $295,320
· Town of Cicero, NY, Hamlet of Brewerton, Downtown Revitalization $764,400
· To address pollution in Onondaga Lake $1,000,000
· Steel Creek (small flood control projects) - $1,500,000
· Upper Delaware River Watershed for flood reduction $700,000
· State University of New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry - Northeastern State Research Cooperative $639,860
