SCHUMER ANNOUNCES $295,000 COMING TO SULLIVAN COUNTY FOR AGRICULTURAL DEVELOPMENT AND JOB CREATION


Funding will Provide Access to Essential Production Equipment to Increase Economic Potential of Rural Businesses

Project Will Create Up to 20 Jobs in the Area

U.S. Senator Charles E. Schumer today announced that Sullivan County Industrial Development Agency has received a Rural Business Enterprise Grant for $295,000 from the U.S. Department of Agriculture.  The grant will be used to launch the Agriculture Equipment Initiative (AEI) that will make available essential production equipment to qualified agriculture enterprises on a lease basis. The project will create up to 20 jobs  in the area.

"Agriculture plays a pivotal role in our community and our economy," said Schumer.  "Funding for critical equipment will help jumpstart small businesses and create jobs in Sullivan County and lead the way to economic development."  

 

The AEI is intended to support the development of niche agricultural industries create new jobs and stimulate demand for agricultural products.  The project will create 20 jobs. 

 

The grant is part of the USDA Rural Development annual budget.  USDA Rural Development's mission is to increase economic opportunity and improve the quality of life for rural residents.  Rural Development fosters growth in homeownership, finances business development, and supports the creation of necessary community and technology infrastructure.
