SCHUMER ANNOUNCES $9.9 MILLION IN ECONOMIC RECOVERY ACT FUNDING COMING TO STEUBEN COUNTY VA FOR FACILITY IMPROVEMENTS AND UPGRADES, GREEN ENERGY PROJECTS


Economic Recovery Act Will Fund Projects Under Dept of Veterans Affairs to Improve Existing Infrastructure and Implement Green Conservation Measures

Funding Will Go Toward Replacing Heating, Air Conditioning and Ventilation Systems, Wind Turbine Feasibility Study and Other Infrastructure Improvements

Today, United States Senator Charles E. Schumer announced that the Steuben County Veterans Affairs Medical Center is receiving $9,990,000 through the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) funded by President Obama's American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. The funding will provide grants for improvement projects such heating, ventilation and air conditioning replacement and a wind turbine feasibility study.

 

"Investing in infrastructure improvements at our local VA facilities will ensure that our veterans have full access to the benefits they deserve," said Schumer. "These projects will also create jobs while implementing environmentally friendly measures that will save money, reduce pollution, and cut energy use. During these tough economic times, these funds will provide a boost to the local economy in Steuben County and the entire nation ."

 

 

Steuben County has received a total of $9,990,000 through Economic Recovery Act under the Department of Veteran Affairs. The numbers for the area break down as follows:

 

 

  • $1,956,000 to replace heating, ventilation and air conditioning in Building 92
  • $350,000 to replace elevator in Building 33
  • $1,084,000 to replace window heating, ventilation and air conditioning in Building 33
  • $300,000 to replace and upgrade the electric distribution system in Building 41
  • $200,000 to replace and upgrade heating, ventilation and air conditioning in Building 39
  • $2,500,000 to replace and upgrade the electrical distribution system
  • $250,000 to renovations for women's health center
  • $750,000 to upgrade and replace the heating, ventilation and air conditioning and fire suppression system
  • $750,000 to relocate the hospice and GeroPsychiatric unit
  • $1,800,000 to replace main drainage system for Building 76
  • $50,000 to evaluate feasibility of a wind turbine

 

The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 provided expenditure plans to the Congress for funds VA received through the Act.  These plans cover the following accounts:

 

  • Medical Facilities

 

  • National Cemetery Administration

 

  • Information Technology Systems

 

  • Grants for Construction of State Extended Care Facilities
