Schumer: Donnelly Is A Dedicated Public Servant with Deep Legal Experience Who Will Make An Excellent Judge
U.S. Senator Charles E. Schumer announced that Ann Donnelly, whom Schumer recommended to President Obama, has been confirmed by the Senate (95-2) to serve as a judge in the Eastern District Court of New York. In November, Donnelly was nominated by the President.

Judge Donnelly has dedicated her life to public service, having spent a quarter decade as a prosecutor in the prestigious New York County District Attorney’s Office. Judge Donnelly is fair, open-minded, and has exactly the kind of temperament that will make her an exceptional federal judge. I congratulate Judge Donnelly on her confirmation; it is a milestone day in her career and a bright day for the Eastern District of New York,” said Senator Schumer.
Donnelly is a graduate of the University of Michigan and received her JD from Ohio University College of Law. Upon graduation, Donnelly joined the New York County District Attorney’s Office, where she was a prosecutor for approximately twenty five years. Donnelly worked in the Appeals Bureau and appeared regularly in the Appellate Division, First Department and the New York Court of Appeals. In 1989, Donnelly was assigned to the Major Offense Career Criminal Program, a specialized bureau that targeted repeat offenders and violent felons. In 1997, Donnelly was promoted to Senior Trial Counsel and was a member of the Sex Crimes Prosecution Unit. In 2005, Donnelly was named the Bureau Chief of the Family Violence and Child Abuse Bureau.
Donnelly has served as a Judge of the New York State Court of Claims since 2009. In 2009, Donnelly was appointed to the New York State Court of Claims by Governor David Paterson and was assigned as an acting Supreme Court Justice to Bronx Supreme Court, Criminal Division. As of 2013, Donnelly has served as a trial judge in Kings County Supreme Court.
Donnelly is a fellow in the American College of Trial Lawyers and regularly judges mock trials and moot court competitions. Additionally, Donnelly serves as a judge for the Jerome Prince Memorial Moot Court Evidence Competition at Brooklyn Law School. Donnelly is also on the advisory board for the Thurgood Marshall Junior Mock Trial Program, in which 7th and 8th grade students prepare and try a criminal case.
