Schumer Announces Over $4 Million For Albany International Airport

Money Will Be Used To Extend Runway and Improve Runway Safety Area

US Senator Charles E. Schumer today announced that the US Department of Transportation has awarded $4,350,856 in a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) grant to the Albany International Airport to extend their runway and make improvements to the safety area.

"Bringing low cost airlines like Independence Air to the region has helped Albany's economy, but we need to keep doing more," said Schumer. "We have to make sure that we maintain and upgrade our airports to ensure that we keep passengers safe while at the same time meet the challenge of increased demand so we can continue to attract new carriers to the region."

Albany International Airport will use the grant to extend Runway 19 and also make improvements to the runway's safety area. The extension will ensure that more airplanes are able to utilize Albany International Airport safely. The improvements to the runway safety area will help the airport meet further FAA standards.
