SCHUMER ANNOUNCES OVER $6 MILLION COMING TO ROCHESTER-GENESEE REGIONAL TRANSPORTATION AUTHORITY FOR VITAL JOB-CREATING TRANSPORTATION UPGRADES
Grant Will Fund Purchase of New Buses and Renovation of RTS Campus Facility
Schumer: Safe and Dependable Transportation Service Will Create Jobs and Is Critical to Economic Development in the Rochester-Finger Lakes Region
U.S. Senator Charles E. Schumer today announced that the RochesterGenesee Regional Transportation Authority will receive $ 6,351,718.00 from the Department of Transportation (DOT) to purchase eight new 40ft. lowfloor, heavyduty diesel transit buses and to rehabilitate and renovate the RTS Campus Facility. Paid through the Federal Transit Administration (FTA), the grant will enhance the transportation center's safety and operational standards.
"This grant will put people to work and improves Rochester's transportation network. This is great news for the RochesterFinger Lake region and for the many thousands of Rochester travelers who use this transportation hub," said Schumer. "Safe and dependable transportation service is critical to the future of RochesterFinger Lakes region so we need to guarantee that this station remains a hub to keep that economic engine running. I will fight to keep job creating grants like this one coming to the Rochester area and to New York State."
The RochesterGenesee Regional Transportation Authority will purchase eight new passenger lowfloor heavyduty diesel transit buses. The new buses will provide improved service for passengers that use public transit every day. The rehabilitation and renovation to the RTS Campus Facility will increase station's importance as a regional transportation hub.
