SCHUMER, GILLIBRAND ANNOUNCE $3 MILLION IN FEDERAL FUNDING FOR SULLIVAN COUNTY INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT

Department Of Transportation Grant Will Fund Critical Improvements To Sullivan County International Airport’s Taxiway 

U.S. Senate Minority Leader Charles E. Schumer and U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand today announced $3 million in federal funding for Sullivan County International Airport in Monticello. The funding was allocated through the U.S. Department of Transportation’s (DOT) Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA) Airport Improvement Program (AIP). Specifically, the funding will be used to repair and improve Sullivan County International Airport’s taxiway.

“As Sullivan County continues to grow and become home to new and exciting businesses, it’s crucial that its airport improves right along with it. It’s important to keep our rural airports in tip-top shape, which will both ensure safe travel for Hudson Valley residents and help attract business and tourism to a growing Sullivan County,” said Senator Schumer. “As someone who regularly flies in and out of Sullivan County International Airport, just as recently as last month, it’s clear that the airport has been upgrading, improving, and enhancing their facilities rapidly in recent years. These federal funds, on top of the millions I was proud to secure over the past decade, will allow the Sullivan County International Airport to continue their work to enhance and repair its taxiway, which will boost safety for those that fly in and out of the airport every day.”

“I am excited to announce this federal investment that will update the taxiway at Sullivan County International Airport and enhance the safety and travel experience for travelers flying in and out of Sullivan County,” said Senator Gillibrand. “Investments in airport infrastructure are critical to local development around our state. I will continue to fight so that our airports can get the resources they need to be safe, modern, and efficient.”

This funding is awarded through the AIP and is administered by the FAA. The AIP provides grants to public agencies for the planning and development of public-use airports that are included in the National Plan of Integrated Airport Systems (NPIAS). Funds obligated for the AIP are drawn from the Airport and Airway Trust Fund, which is supported by user fees, fuel taxes, and other similar revenue sources.
