Federal National Science Foundation Funding Will Enable Researchers To Study Ways To Make Telecommunications Systems Faster 

Schumer & Gillibrand: Fed Funds Will Support World-Renowned Research At Cornell

U.S. Senators Charles E. Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand today announced $500,000 in federal National Science Foundation (NSF) funds for Cornell University. These funds will allow Cornell to research ways to improve telecommunications networks across the country. Schumer and Gillibrand explained that the ability to compress more data will allow telecommunications systems and infrastructure to transmit information faster and more efficiently, which could benefit residents and businesses across New York State.

“Cornell University has a rich tradition of advancing New York’s economy through scientific innovation,” said Senator Schumer. “These cutting-edge scientists are on the cusp of transforming our telecommunications networks, and this funding will allow them to further research ways to develop this critical compression technology. This federal investment will support Cornell University as a leader in the fields of computing and information sciences; and add to the illustrious reputation of the university and its research throughout the Nation.”
