SCHUMER, GILLIBRAND ANNOUNCE MORE THAN $230K IN FEDERAL FUNDS FOR FLOYD BENNETT MEMORIAL AIRPORT IN WARREN COUNTY

Federal Dept. of Transportation Grant Funds Improvements to Airport Runways

U.S Senators Charles E Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand today announced $238,695 in federal funding for the Floyd Bennett Memorial Airport in Warren County. The funding was allocated through the U.S. Department of Transportation’s (DOT) Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). Specifically, the funding was allocated through two separate grants. The first grant of $58,695 will provide funding to design 5,000 feet of rehabilitated runway and replace 50 airfield guidance sign fixtures; this will maintain the integrity of the runway pavement and improve the safety of aircraft movement around the airport. The second grant of $180,000 will fund the acquisition of 24.47 acres of land surrounding a runway approach, enabling the airport to better maintain its runway.

“Keeping our airport runways and signage in top-notch shape is crucial for traveler safety and for attracting business and tourism to the region,” said Senator Schumer. “With this funding, the Floyd Bennett Memorial Airport will be able to make the critical infrastructure upgrades to increase safety and efficiency for the passengers and pilots that fly in and out of Warren County every day.”

“Investing in our airport infrastructure enables safer, more efficient service for the businesses and travelers who utilize it every day,” said Senator Gillibrand. “These funds through the Department of Transportation are a major investment for the Floyd Bennett Memorial Airport to renovate and upgrade their facilities. I will continue to push for resources that enhance efficiency and public safety at our airports.”

"Warren County’s Floyd Bennett Memorial Airport would like to thank Senator Schumer for his continued support of aviation in New York," said Airport Manager Ross Dubarry. "These two grants will ensure that our airport remains a safe and modern facility for years to come. The runway 12 obstruction mitigation project will acquire the property rights to control hazards to aviation safety and the general public. The pavement repair, runway marking and airfield guidance sign project will significantly extend the useful life of our airfield pavements while meeting updated FAA runway markings standards, as well as replace 25 year old aircraft guidance signs with high efficiency LED airfield signs thereby reducing maintenance and energy costs."

This funding is awarded through the Airport Improvement Program (AIP) and is administered by DOT’s Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). The Airport Improvement Program provides grants to public agencies for the planning and development of public-use airports that are included in the National Plan of Integrated Airport Systems (NPIAS). Funds obligated for the AIP are drawn from the Airport and Airway Trust Fund, which is supported by user fees, fuel taxes, and other similar revenue sources.
