SCHUMER, GILLIBRAND ANNOUNCE MORE THAN $24,000 IN FEDERAL FUNDING FOR BRIER HILL FIRE DISTRICT IN ST. LAWRENCE COUNTY
Funding For Brier Hill Fire District Will Be Used To Purchase New Protective Turn-Out Gear
Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senators Charles E. Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand today announced $24,858 in federal funding for the Brier Hill Fire District. This funding was allocated through the Department of Homeland Security's Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) Program. Specifically, the Brier Hill Fire District will use these federal funds to purchase 12 full sets of new National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standard protective turn-out gear, including helmets, boots, gloves and nomex fire retardant hoods, to help keep firefighters safe while responding to emergencies.
“With this funding, first responders in the Brier Hill Fire District can focus on their important work knowing they have new, reliable and protective equipment,” said Senator Schumer. “This investment will help ensure that our local heroes can continue their life-saving work as effectively and safely as possible.”
“Our first responders are on the frontlines during emergencies and this federal funding would allow the Brier Hill Fire District to invest in critical protective equipment for first responders to carry out their lifesaving work more effectively in the community,” said Senator Gillibrand. “Our firefighters should have the most up-to-date equipment when they respond to emergencies.”
“The Brier Hill Fire Company is greatly appreciative of this award.” said Brier Hill Fire Chief Shawn Macaulay, “Our members will now be in full compliance and will be protected to the best possible way with this much needed equipment. Without this great program, a lot of rural department’s would have to go without.”
The Assistance to Firefighters Grants are administered by the Department of Homeland Security Federal Emergency Management Agency in cooperation with the Department's United States Fire Administration. The grants are awarded on a competitive basis to the applicants that most closely address the program's priorities and demonstrate financial need.
