SCHUMER, GILLIBRAND ANNOUNCE MORE THAN $8.5 MILLION FOR ELMIRA CORNING REGIONAL AIRPORT TO EXTEND RUNWAY
Schumer, Gillibrand: This Is An Important Step to Improve Air Travel for New Yorkers
Washington, D.C. Today, U.S. Senators Charles E. Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand announced that Elmira Corning Regional Airport is set to receive $8,556,627 in U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) funds to extend the runway and parallel taxiway at the airport.
"This is great news for the passengers and pilots that fly in and out of Elmira Corning Regional Airport every day," said Schumer. "With this investment, Elmira Corning airport will make runway and taxiway renovations that will improve both passenger safety and the smooth operation of the facility. I will continue to deliver resources like these that promote safety at all New York airports."
"This is an important investment for Elmira Corning Regional Airport," Senator Gillibrand said. "These federal dollars will help support infrastructure upgrades to improve the airport and provide better service for travelers."
"The project is essential to accommodate the growth that we've been experiencing at the airport," said Ann Crook, Manager of the Elmira Corning Regional Airport. "This federal investment will create jobs in Chemung County and help continue to grow our local economy."
This federal grant will be used to complete Phase III of the construction of extending Runway 24 and the parallel taxiway.
