SCHUMER, GILLIBRAND ANNOUNCE NEARLY $150K IN FEMA FUNDING FOR FIREFIGHTERS
Federal Funding Will Be Used To Provide Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) For First Responders
Washington D.C., - U.S. Senate Minority Leader Charles E. Schumer and U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand today announced $146,847.25 in federal funding to provide essential PPE for New York’s firefighters responding to COVID-19. The funding was allocated through the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA)’s Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) - COVID-19 Supplemental Program.
“In settled times, and during the peak of the pandemic in New York, our brave firefighters are always on the front lines, risking their lives to protect their communities,” said Senator Schumer. “These understaffed, overworked, courageous firefighters deserve all the federal support possible to help them do their jobs. I’ve fought my whole career to bring more federal resources to support our brave firefighters, and I’m proud to deliver this funding so New York’s fire departments have the resources they need to make it through the ensuing economic crisis.”
“It is essential that we provide our firefighters with the equipment and protection needed to stay safe on the job during this health crisis,” said Senator Gillibrand. “New York’s first responders have worked tirelessly to keep our communities safe, and we must ensure they have the essential PPE they need. I’m proud to announce this funding for local fire departments, and I will always fight to ensure our frontline heroes have the resources needed so they can continue working to keep our communities safe and protected.”
