SCHUMER, GILLIBRAND ANNOUNCE OVER $1.1 MILLION IN FEDERAL FUNDING FOR JOB CORPS SCHOLARS PROGRAM

Funding Will Provide At-Risk Youths with Job Skills Instructions, Educational Opportunities, and Employment Counseling

Washington D.C. -  U.S. Senate Minority Leader Charles E. Schumer and U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand today announced $1,186,900 in federal funding to establish a Job Scholarship Program for Mohawk Valley Community College in Utica, New York. This federal funding was allocated through the US Department of Labor as part of the Job Corps Scholars Program and will provide at-risk youths with skills training and individualized employment counseling to ensure that they have the institutional support needed to succeed in the job market. 

“The Job Corps Scholars Program has a proven track record of helping young people realize their full potential and secure a career path that is right for them,” said Senator Schumer. “This investment into New York’s at-risk youth will give them the support and skills they need to succeed in their careers and communities. I am proud to help deliver a brighter future for our young New Yorkers, and I will not rest until every New Yorker has the resources they need to succeed.”

“Job insecurity disproportionately affects New Yorkers who cannot afford specialized skills training, widening the socioeconomic divide,” said Senator Gillibrand. “This funding will help break this cycle and offer a pathway to success in the workforce by providing education, training, and support services for at risk youths. I will continue fighting for a just and equitable workforce that affords an equal opportunity for success to all New Yorkers.”
