Schumer, Gillibrand: Funding Will Keep Key New York Military Operations At Peak Excellence, Security And Readiness

U.S. Senate Minority Leader Charles E. Schumer and U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand today announced that following their push, the recently-passed Fiscal Year 2019 Military Construction, Veterans Affairs, and Related (MILCON-VA) Appropriations Bill includes federal funding for four Military Construction (MILCON) projects across Upstate New York. The federal funding came out to a total of $188.2 million, and will fund the construction of a perimeter fence at Rome Lab, a physical fitness center at Niagara Falls Air Reserve Station (NFARS), and an engineering center and parking structure at West Point. Schumer and Gillibrand worked tirelessly to authorize these four projects in the Fiscal Year 2019 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), which was passed this August, and applauded their colleagues in Congress for appropriating the funding needed for these vital projects.

“This federal funding is a critical step in keeping the world-class military assets we have in New York – from Rome Labs to West Point to NFARS – fully modernized and at the peak of excellence and readiness,” said Senator Schumer. “The just-passed defense appropriations bill will fund vital military construction projects, like securing the perimeter at Rome Lab, building a new fitness center at NFARS, and constructing a new engineering center at West Point. I’m proud of the role I played in securing these essential funds, and will always fight to ensure the military facilities in New York are kept at the pinnacle of their field.”

“New York’s military installations serve a critical role in defending our nation, and with the recently passed appropriations bill, NFARS, Rome Lab, and West Point will be able to complete important upgrades to their facilities,” said Senator Gillibrand, Ranking Member of the Senate Armed Services Personnel Subcommittee. “It is vital that these facilities have the resources necessary to continue providing intelligence for our national defense and to best train the men and women who serve our country. I was proud to fight for this funding and I will continue work to ensure the readiness of our military.”
