SCHUMER, GILLIBRAND ANNOUNCE OVER $2.5 MILLION IN FEDERAL FUNDING FOR TELEHEALTH SERVICES

Washington D.C. - U.S. Senate Minority Leader Charles E. Schumer and U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand today announced $2,667,741 in federal funding to provide additional telehealth services for New Yorkers affected by the coronavirus outbreak. The ninth set of telehealth funding was awarded to seven New York health care organizations through the Federal Communications Commissions (FCC) COVID-19 Telehealth Program as part of the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security Act (CARES). This federal funding will help ensure New Yorkers have reliable access to quality health care during the COVID-19 outbreak. Specifically, this funding will be used to purchase essential equipment such as laptops, tablets, mobile hotspots, and video conferencing software that will allow providers to safely facilitate remote consultations and diagnostic services with patients.

“As COVID-19 continues to deeply impact New York, it’s imperative that New York hospitals and health centers have all the tools necessary to keep up the fight against the virus,” said Senator Schumer. “This vital funding for telehealth programs will help New Yorkers begin the road to recovery, and I will continue to fight to make sure that hospitals and health centers have the funding they need to keep healthcare providers and patients safe and healthy.”

“Telehealth services play an essential role in protecting the safety of New York’s front-line workers and patients as we continue fighting the COVID-19 outbreak,” said Senator Gillibrand“This funding will help mitigate the spread of COVID-19 for New York’s essential health care providers, while ensuring that patients still have access to vital diagnostic services, regular health checkups, and treatment. I will always fight for the resources needed to secure the safety of New Yorkers during this unprecedented crisis.”
