SCHUMER, GILLIBRAND ANNOUNCE OVER $8 MILLION TO SUPPORT THE ARTS, MUSIC, AND BOOST EDUCATIONAL & CULTURAL PROGRAMMING ACROSS NEW YORK THROUGH THE NATIONAL ENDOWMENT FOR THE ARTS

Schumer, Gillibrand: Investing In The Arts Is How We Paint A More Vibrant Picture For New York’s Future!
U.S. Senate Majority Leader Charles E. Schumer and U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand today announced $8,018,255 for nearly 300 grants distributed by the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) to organizations across New York State. The senators said this funding will allow beloved cultural organizations and nonprofits to support artists, musicians, exhibitions, educational programing and public engagement and outreach to help grow these vital industries in communities across Upstate NY.
“Art, music, and the humanities, along with community organizations, cultural groups, and non-profits are the lifeblood of New York communities big and small. From the Thomas Cole House to the Buffalo Philharmonic, an investment in the arts is an investment in New York’s future, as both a tourist destination and a vibrant place to live,” said Senator Schumer. “This over $8 million federal investment will help paint a more vibrant picture for New York’s future, all while supporting jobs, education, and breathing new life into our Main Streets which depend on a thriving arts and cultural sector. I am proud to deliver this critical federal funding to support hundreds of Empire State organizations that will keep the arts growing in New York for years to come.”

Project: To support a survey exhibition at the Albright-Knox Art Gallery featuring the work of abstract painter Stanley Whitney.
Buffalo String Works, Inc.: $25,000
Project: To support the expansion of a free orchestra program for youth.
Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra Society, Inc.: $20,000
Project: To support a community engagement program and concert.
Capital Region
Thomas Cole Historic House: $30,000
Project: To support an exhibition and accompanying catalogue examining the depictions of land and landscape in historic and contemporary art.
Albany Symphony Orchestra, Inc.: $30,000
Project: To support a commissioning and performance project.
Empire State Youth Orchestra, Inc.: $10,000
Project: To support a musical collaboration between composer Angélica Negrón and students.
Historic Cherry Hill: $10,000
Project: To support an exhibition of visual art works commissioned to respond to the life of James Knapp, a 19th-century Black resident of Albany, New York.

Project: To support a mixed-methods research study on the availability and effectiveness of access accommodations for deaf and hard of hearing (DHH) individuals experiencing live theater.

Project: To support traditional African performing arts classes.

Project: To support the an artist residency by sculptor Margaret Jacobs, including the creation of new work.

Project: To support the Sharon Springs Poetry Festival.

Project: To support a grant program for arts and cultural organizations in central New York State.
