SCHUMER, GILLIBRAND ANNOUNCE UNIVERSITY AT ALBANY RECEIVES PRESTIGIOUS ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE IN CYBER DEFENSE EDUCATION DESIGNATION

Designation is Awarded to Universities that Offer Rigorous Bachelor’s and Graduate Degree Programs that Prepare Students for the Nation’s Cyber Defense Needs

Washington, DC – Today, U.S. Senate Minority Leader Charles E. Schumer and U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand announced that the University at Albany has been designated as a National Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense Education (CAE-CD) by the National Security Agency (NSA), in collaboration with the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). The CAE-CD program was created to recognize and grant designations to schools that offer rigorous degree programs in information security. Through this jointly sponsored program, the NSA and DHS work together to promote higher education and research in cyber defense to produce graduates with expertise to improve the cybersecurity posture of our nation.

“I am so proud to announce that the University at Albany has been designated as a National Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense Education,” said Senator Schumer. “The University at Albany is home to some of New York State’s brightest and continues to be a leader in cybersecurity education. This designation will complement the University at Albany’s rigorous curriculum and help train and educate our future generation of cybersecurity professionals. I appreciate NSA and DHS recognizing the University’s continued excellence in the field and I will keep fighting  to ensure that we have the tools and the people we need to protect our digital infrastructure from current and future threats.”

“I would like to congratulate the University at Albany for receiving this prestigious designation as a National Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense Education,” said Senator Gillibrand. “Our country needs more cybersecurity professionals, and we also need to make it a top priority to develop and enhance our nation’s cybersecurity infrastructure. The curriculum at the University at Albany produces top-tier cyber defense experts, and I am pleased that the NSA and DHS have recognized the university’s work in this field. I will always support programs that help defend our country against cyber-attacks.”

CAE-CD institutions receive formal recognition from the U.S. Government and opportunities for prestige and publicity for safeguarding citizens against the increasing frequency of cyberattacks by preparing the next generation of cyber defense experts. The NSA and DHS recognize that the ultimate goal of higher education and research in cyber defense is to produce professionals capable of defending against the increasingly complex nature of cybercrime in both government and industry.
