SCHUMER, GILLIBRAND, MAFFEI ANNOUNCE MORE THAN $1.5 MILLION IN USDA FUNDING FOR THE TOWN OF MARION IN WAYNE COUNTY
Marion Will Use Funding To Complete First Phase of Expansion to Water Infrastructure; New Water Line Will Provide More Residents With Access to Clean, Public Water
U.S. Senators Charles E. Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand and Representative Daniel Maffei today announced $1,501,000 in federal funding for the Town of Marion in Wayne County. The funding was allocated through the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Rural Development Water and Environmental Program. The town will receive a loan of $831,000 and a grant of $670,000 in order to install 26,675 feet of water line, including hydrants and multiple gate valves. The project will be completed on Owls Nest Road and Russell Road within the town and supply public water to approximately 77 residential units within both the Town of Marion and Town of Sodus water districts. Many of the residents in this service area currently experience poor water quality and supply. This water line extension will be the first phase of a major, three-part expansion with the overall goal of supplying public water to residents town-wide. The entire improvement project is expected to be completed by the summer of 2015.
“Upgrading our aging water and sewer systems is critical to public health, a thriving economy and a clean environment,” said Senator Schumer. “This federal investment in the water-sewer system of Marion will have a positive impact on residents and businesses in the area.”

This critical funding will help protect the health and quality of life of residents by delivering clean water to more local families.”

This critical funding will help the Town of Marion upgrade water infrastructure and improve the quality of water for local residents. This project was begun as part of an overall goal of supplying public water to our residents town-wide. Many of these residents have a poor water supply, whether it be due to the taste, purity, or quantity of their well water supplies,” said Monica Deyo, Supervisor for the Town of Marion.
USDA Rural Development’s Water and Environmental Program provides loans and grants to ensure that the necessary investments are made in water and wastewater infrastructure to deliver safe drinking water and protect the environment in rural areas.
