Schumer: All Systems Go For GlobalFoundries In Saratoga County

In a personal meeting with GlobalFoundries CEO Thomas Caulfield yesterday, a major producer of semiconductors and employer in Upstate New York, U.S. Senator Charles E. Schumer emphasized the company’s plant in Malta, in Saratoga County as a site of potential growth. Caulfield agreed with Schumer, and said that he is optimistic about the prospects of adding good-paying jobs to the Malta plant. In fact, Caulfield explained that there is significant available floor space at the Malta facility, and that the company could expand operations and hire additional New Yorkers without having to put a shovel in the ground. During their meeting, Schumer thanked Caulfield for his commitment to bringing further economic development to the Capital Region and Upstate New York, and vowed to work in lockstep with GlobalFoundries to continue advancing the semiconductor manufacturing industry across the state.

“During my meeting with GlobalFoundries CEO Thomas Caulfield, I argued that there’s no better place to supercharge the semiconductor industry than our backyard of Malta, and he agreed. The GlobalFoundries factory in Malta has the infrastructure and floor space needed to become a lightning rod for new good-paying jobs in the Capital Region,” said Senator Schumer. “I was pleased to hear that Dr. Caulfield is optimistic about GlobalFoundries’ future in Upstate New York, and thank him for his commitment to bringing meaningful economic development to our state. Good-paying, American manufacturing jobs like those at the GlobalFoundries plant in Malta are a precious commodity these days, and I will continue to give my full support to the company in any way I can to bring as many more Upstate jobs as possible.”
