SCHUMER: ROCHESTER HARRIS CORP. WINS MASSIVE ORDER TO MANUFACTURE +850 MANPACK RADIOS FOR THE ARMY; SENATOR SAYS ARMY RECOGNIZES ROCHESTER’S HARRIS CORP. PROVIDES THE MOST DURABLE, DEPENDABLE & INNOVATIVE TECHNOLOGY TO PROTECT OUR TROOPS

New Order Follows Schumer’s Successful Push To Give Companies Like Harris Corp. A Level Playing Field To Compete For The Manpack Radio Contract

Schumer: Major Order Is A Win-Win-Win, For Our Troops, Harris & Rochester-Finger Lakes Economy

U.S. Senator Charles E. Schumer today announced that Harris Corp. in Rochester, New York, has been awarded a major order to manufacture 860 AN/PRC-158 Manpack radios for the U.S. Army. This is the second order of radios that Harris will produce under the Army’s $12.7 billion Indefinite-Delivery/Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) HMS Manpack radio contract. Schumer announced Harris as a winner of the Army’s HMS Manpack radio contract in 2016, meaning that the Rochester company is one of three vendors that will provide up to $12.7 billion worth of these multi-channel radios to fulfill the Army’s needs.

“This well-deserved order for Harris Corp. to produce radios for the Army is a win-win-win, for our troops, Harris Corp. and the Rochester-Finger Lakes economy. Harris’s newest order will ensure that our armed forces have the most modern and effective radios possible,” said Senator Schumer. “I have a long history of fighting relentlessly to level the playing field in order to give companies like Harris Corp. a chance to compete for massive military contracts, such as the Manpack radio contract because I knew that if given a shot, this Rochester mainstay would exceed all of the Army’s expectations. Well, today’s order further confirms what we already knew: Harris Corp. produces superior technology for the U.S. military.”

The announcement comes after Senator Schumer’s prolonged push on behalf of Harris Corp. between 2013 and 2015, urging a full and fair Army procurement process for the Manpack radio to ensure that companies like Harris Corp. would have an even playing field to compete.

The AN/PRC-158 Manpack radio is a versatile, two-channel, handheld radio that has the ability to transmit a wide variety of signals and communications by integrating two-channels within one device. Additionally, the radios will be outfitted with Mobile User Objective System (MUOS) capable software, which will serve numerous benefits including meeting the Army’s increasing demand for more capable satellite communications and enhanced voice and data communication.
