SCHUMER SECURES OWEGO VISIT BY NAVY SECRETARY; SECRETARY TO VISIT LOCKHEED MARTIN ROTARY AND MISSION SYSTEMS, TOUR FACILITY AND MEET WITH LOCKHEED MARTIN

In Personal Meeting With Navy Secretary Spencer, Schumer Raised Crucial Need For Secretary To Visit Owego

Senator Has Long Fought To Help Create And Maintain Jobs In Owego

U.S. Senate Minority Leader Charles E. Schumer today announced that Secretary of the Navy, Richard V. Spencer, will visit Lockheed Martin Rotary and Mission Systems in Owego, New York. In a meeting, during his confirmation process, Schumer requested that Secretary Spencer visit New York’s Navy and defense industry facilities. Lockheed Martin is a major fixture in New York State, employing thousands at its facility in Owego and at other facilities and suppliers across the state.

“Having Secretary Spencer in Owego to see first-hand the quality of the work done here at Lockheed Martin Rotary and Mission Systems is a tremendous opportunity,” said Senator Schumer. “We thank the Secretary for taking the time to visit Lockheed Martin in Owego, which is a top-notch operation that creates and manufactures systems used every day in operations around the world. I am pleased that Secretary Spencer will see first-hand the outstanding workforce and the state-of the-art facilities that Lockheed Martin is known for, and look forward to new opportunities for collaboration and to support our nation’s armed forces.”

In July Schumer visited the Lockheed’s Martin’s Rotary and Missions Systems in Owego, where he met with top executives and renewed his effort to support New York jobs, including the approximately 2,600 in Owego. Schumer has a long history of fighting for work critical to national security and to the Owego facility, including the Presidential Helicopter program (VH-92) and The Air Force Combat Rescue Program.
