SCHUMER STATEMENT ON THE HARRIET TUBMAN BICENTENNIAL COMMEMORATIVE COIN ACT BEING SIGNED INTO LAW

Washington, D.C. – Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY), a longtime advocate for the Harriet Tubman National Historical Park and Harriet Tubman Home, today released the following statement on the Harriet Tubman Bicentennial Commemorative Coin Act being signed into law:

“The Harriet Tubman Home in Cayuga County is a beloved site that welcomes visitors from across the country to teach them of Tubman’s extraordinary American life and today it has received the long overdue recognition it deserves. These coins will ensure Harriet Tubman’s courageous story lives on and that the Harriet Tubman Home in Auburn can continue to inspire countless generations to come,” said Senator Schumer. “Harriet Tubman, a slave who overcame, was a trailblazer and an American hero whose courage and commitment to freedom changed the course of history. I am proud to have fought to formally establish the Harriet Tubman National Historical Park in Cayuga County, and am proud to have continued that fight with this bill to ensure Tubman’s history in New York continues to live on.”
