Senator Successfully Pushed Legislation That Will Help Create New Local Jobs In Wyoming County
Schumer Announces Job Fair November 2nd At All 3 Pioneer Locations; Company Hiring 90 Now To Fill Positions Across The Company
U.S. Senator Charles E. Schumer today rallied with employees and company executives at the Pioneer facility in Perry, NY, Wyoming County to officially celebrate the company’s win last month of a significant federal Internal Revenue Service (IRS) contract that will strengthen the company’s presence in Wyoming County and position it to add new jobs across its three locations in Perry, Arcade and Horseheads. This contract comes as a result of a provision Schumer pushed to include in the federal transportation bill that passed Congress last December – the Fixing America’s Surface Transportation (FAST) Act. The provision enabled the IRS to hire designated private collection agencies to support the collection of delinquent taxes that are not being collected now for lack of federal resources. The recovered funds will pay for the collections themselves and go into the Treasury's General Fund, which supports national priorities such as funding public infrastructure projects, the U.S. military, and other federal needs.
“The creation of good-paying, middle-class jobs across these three facilities is incredible news for Upstate New York and the Finger Lakes. The new law and this resulting federal contract will help inject new life into the regional economy. The employees of Pioneer have earned this opportunity with their hard work and dedication. These new positions will surely cement Pioneer’s place as a staple in the Wyoming County business community,” said Senator Schumer. “Today’s news will allow the company to continue as a critical engine of economic development across New York State.”
In addition, Schumer announced that, as a result of the company’s success, Pioneer will be hiring more than 90 people between their facilities in Arcade, Perry and Horseheads. In order to find local workers who qualify for these jobs, the company will be holding recruitment events and job fairs – open to the public – starting on November 2 from 10am – 3pm.
Schumer said this critical federal contract that will allow Pioneer to serve as a private contractor helping the IRS to collect unpaid taxes. This will allow the company to recover unpaid taxes in order to help fund things like road and infrastructure work, the U.S. military, and other federal needs. Pioneer, which has three facilities in Upstate New York – two located in Wyoming County in the Towns of Arcade and Perry, and one located with Pioneer’s sister company General Revenue Corporation (GRC) in Chemung County in the Town of Horseheads – estimates the IRS contract will create 300 new jobs at its Horseheads facility.
Schumer said this is incredible news for the company and the local employees it will hire across Upstate New York. Schumer said the new IRS contract, in particular, helps solidify Pioneer’s presence in Wyoming County by diversifying its customer base and strengthening the company’s long term bottom line. Moreover, the contract will provide advancement and promotion opportunities for current Pioneer employees.
Pioneer Credit Recovery and General Revenue Corporation are subsidiaries of Navient, the nation’s leading loan management, servicing and asset recovery company. Pioneer has three facilities in Upstate New York – two located in Wyoming County in the Towns of Arcade and Perry, and one located in Chemung County in the Town of Horseheads. Pioneer estimates this contract will create 300 new jobs at its Horseheads facility. GRC will also be investing millions of dollars into a build out at its facility to accommodate this new work, which means an economic boost for local contractors and other area businesses.
Schumer was joined by Navient President and CEO, Jack Remondi as well as Navient Vice President of Operations and Pioneer Credit Recovery, Inc. President, Jeff Mersmann. Additionally, Schumer was joined by the Chairman of the Wyoming County Board of Supervisors and Town of Arcade Supervisor, Doug Berwanger, the Wyoming County Economic Development and IDA Director, Jim Pierce, and the Town of Perry Supervisor, Jim Brick.
